Flashback Friday: The Monkees

I really wish I could keep this up and get in the habit of doing a flashback post every Friday!!  I haven't done one since last year!
Anyway, today hubby and I were talking about old TV shows we used to watch and maybe putting some on our netflix cue to revisit some of them.  We'd probably laugh our butts off wondering why we ever watched this lame stuff.  My mom and Tiger have been watching Emergency on the MeTv channel lately.  It is so corny!
One of my favorites as a kid was The Monkees.  No, I'm not old enough to have watched it the first time around!  Though I'm not that far off I guess.  It was the mid 70s and my cousin and I loved watching the reruns.  Though at the time we had no clue they were reruns.
Anytime we got together we would play Monkees.  Her and I would fight over who would be Davy because he was our favorite.  The other would then be Mike.  We would make my brother and her sister play Peter and Mickey.
We used to listen to the theme song and wonder why they never came to our town!

Years later I got a chance to see a reunion tour with Davy, Peter and Mickey.  It was fun but not quite what I hoped.  I guess I still had the TV image of them in my head.  I still have the Tshirt I bought!

Flashback Friday: I was a flower girl

This is my cousin and I in October of 1977 when we were flower girls for my aunt's wedding. That's me on the right. My grandmother made those dresses. Aren't they purty? She also made all the dresses for the bridesmaids. They were the same style but they were a rust color like the color of the ribbons on the flowers we're holding.

Flashback Friday: My First Car

I haven't done a Flashback Friday in a while so when I was discussing my first car with a friend the other day I thought it would be a good time to dig out a photo to post. This is me in September of 1987 with my 1983 Dodge Charger.

I was so excited to have my own car. Paid for it myself too....that's how it should be. My dad co-signed the loan but I made all the payments myself.

I loved that car...........I miss it now.

Flashback Friday: Rick Springfield

Those who read my blog regularly know I'm a big fan of Rick Springfield! So since I am online today trying to get tickets to an upcoming show, I thought it was fitting to put up a RS video for my Flashback Friday post. You knew it was only a matter of time!

'What Kind of Fool am I' is I think my all time favorite RS song! Enjoy!

Oh, and Happy first day of Spring!(field)

Flashback Friday: First Crush

I'm not talking about the first crush you had on someone else. How about the first time you realized someone had a crush on you? Not like when little Johnny chased you on the play ground in first grade. The first time you realized some one was actually attracted to you and you know "liked" you, liked you! lol For some reason I've been thinking about that the last couple days. Maybe because my daughter is about that age and wondering when it will happen with her.

My story is around the time I was maybe 14ish. I really don't remember exactly what year it was. It was Christmas time. My brother, parents and I drove from WI back to MA to visit our family back there. We went to my uncle's house one night. I had 3 boy cousins there that were older than me. The oldest 2 weren't home but the youngest was and he had a friend over. Uh-oh!

I noticed from the very beginning that something was up. His friend kept watching me and it freaked me out! At that point I had had absolutely no experience with boys yet. I was very shy and we were living in a fairly new city and I didn't really even have any friends to speak of. It was making me kind of nervous so I was sticking pretty close to my parents that night.

Then it was time for dinner. We had just ordered pizza that they brought back home. Most everyone was in the kitchen and dining room area, but my cousin and friend were upstairs in his room. The pizza was set up on a counter that divided the kitchen from the dining room, I was sitting in the dining room facing that counter. He would stare at me every time he came down for pizza. I say every time because he made several trips. You know teenage boys, they eat a lot! Instead of making one trip and taking his 5 or 6 pieces. He would come down and get one piece, then head up for a few minutes. Then he'd come down for one more. It was quite obvious.

Then after dinner he and my cousin wanted to go down in the basement to play pool and they invited me to go down too. Nope, absolutely not! lol
After much nagging from the rest of my family (did they not realize what was going on and that I was scared to death?) I finally went down for a bit. But only to the bottom of the stairs and watched from across the basement. They were probably 20-25 feet away from me. They kept telling me to come over. Nope, I'm fine right here!
I stayed for maybe 15 minutes and made a break for it.

I don't remember where my brother was during all this. He would have been about 9 or 10 though so not sure what he could have done to "protect" me! I'm not sure what I thought was going to happen either, but I wanted no part of it!

So what about you, do you remember when it happened to you? Were you flattered, excited, grossed out or scared to death like me?

Flashback Friday: Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi will be coming to Summerfest in June and radio stations have been giving away tickets this week before you can buy them. No such luck in winning. It's hard when you're listening at work and they announce the giveaway when you're with a customer. Um, excuse me while I try to win concert tickets. You can wait a few minutes right? I don't think so!

Anyway, I've seen them quite few times since the 80s at different venues in the Milwaukee area. I thought I'd post an 80s video for today's Flashback Friday. There was one that was filmed at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee (I think it may have been You Give Love a Bad Name) but I can't find it. The one I did see on youtube said it was no longer there.

So how about some big 80s hair with Livin' On a Prayer?

Flashback Friday: Big Sister

I was digging through some old pics again (I really need to get them organized). I just joined Facebook recently and was wondering if I had pics of some old neighbors friends I found. I don't :( Didn't think I did anyway, but it was worth a shot.

Anyway, I thought I'd post one I did find to show you what a great big sister I was when growing up and how much I loved my brother!

Yeah, loved to make him cry! Heehee! Look at the grin on my face while he's screaming his head off!

Flashback Friday: Meeting hubby

I started Flashback Friday back in October with the intent of doing it weekly but somehow it only lasted a month. I was thinking about it at work today and decided to start it back up.

Today, since it's only a couple days away from the anniversary of our first date, I'll share the not so exciting story of how I met hubby.

It was our senior year in high school, September 1986. My best friend at the time and his best friend at the time were both working at Kmart and started dating. She helped me get a job there about a week after his friend helped him get a job there. I saw him around for a few weeks, she told me he was her boyfriend's best friend. I was like "yeah, whatever".

Her and I went to a different school than they did. We had free hour at the same time so would spend it in the school snack bar goofing off and chatting. One day she started saying that him and I should go out. I didn't want to. Had no interest in him. In fact, really didn't like him so much. She kept on me about it for weeks but I wasn't interested.

Until..............he went out on a couple dates with another girl that work there too. What? He's going out with her? Why? What does he see in her? That's when my interest started and we both kinda started flirting with each other. I remember him coming into the department I worked one night and he had some scissors in his hand and he threatened to cut my hair!
I worked in layaway which was at the back of the store. You had to go past it to get to the break room. I started noticing when he'd go on break and conveniently started having to go to the bathroom or get something out of my locker during that time.

My friend finally got us to go out for pizza together with her and her bf. He asked me out after that and on February 3, 1987 we went on our first "official" date. He took me to Red Lobster for dinner and then we went to see Critical Condition with Richard Pryor.

Here is probably one of the first pictures of us together. Taken a couple weeks after we started dating before the Senior Formal dance at my school.

Dig those coke bottle glasses!! Was trying to figure out what my dad was watching in the background but it's too small.

Flashback Friday: Halloween Edition

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

I found this while going through some boxes looking for pictures and flashback ideas. It's the first page of a Halloween story I wrote in either Kindergarten or 1st grade. The writing is kind of hard read with my coloring over it so here's what it says:

Once thar was to pumkins siting in the yerd. Than some body squoshet them. Then the necst moning. I looked out the windo and I saw that they wher squoshet and. I got so mad.

I left in all the spelling and punctuation mistakes. That was hard to type! And spell check didn't like it either!

I apologize to any of you whose blog I haven't visited or commented on lately! I've been working more hours. Someone left, another person is working her 2nd shift hours so I've been getting the open 1st shift hours. I don't know how I used to do it working full time.

Flashback Friday: The High School Years

It is Friday, right? It's been one of those weeks where I'm a day off, always thinking it's another day!

So, I'm skipping from elementary to high school. I do have the two pics from my junior high years (7th and 8th grade) but I refuse to post them here. They are just awful. It was a rough couple of years for me and it showed through especially in my hair!

Here I am as a freshman (l), sophomore (r) and junior on the bottom

I don't know, I must have had some kind of thing for stripes back then. I was also wearing them in both of the pics I'm not posting.

Here I am my senior year.

I have to say that for being smack dab in the middle of the 80s I was looking pretty tame in these. I never really did the big hair thing or gobs of makeup with the blue eyeshadow.

Flashback Friday: The Elementary Years

So to continue on our little photo journey, here are my elementary school year photos. I was such a dork! Don't laugh too hard. You may want to set down any beverage you may be drinking before scrolling down!

Kindergarten:

First and Second grade:
Looks like I lost my first tooth there.

Third and Fourth grade:

I'm not sure which one I look more scared in!

Fifth and Sixth grade:
I've always thought that 6th grade pic of me looks eerily like my dad.

My poor hair! I don't think my mom knew how to style girl's hair so she kept it short. Though I remember my grandmother almost ripping my hair out to put it in pony tails. So not sure where the long haired pics are before 6th grade. Unless my mom made me cut it all off at the beginning of each school year. I really don't remember!

You can find more Flashback Friday posts here

Flashback Friday: The Early years

I've been wanting to do Flashback Friday posts for some time now. Not an original idea of course but something fun to do. I recently found a fellow WI blogger who hosts a Flashback Friday every week. So I thought I'd start and link up with her.

I have boxes of old photos that I need to sort through and organize in some way. I have an envelope with some baby photos and all my school pics from K-12 grade so I thought I'd start with those. Then I'll see what else I can find. I'll share old photos or discuss TV shows, movies, music or share stories from my past.

I scanned a couple of my baby pics to start.
My hospital picture, Nov. 1969. My left eye looks bigger than my right. Kind of creepy! But I was wide awake for the photo. Always had to know what was going on around me, still do!
Not sure exactly how old I was in this one. Gotta love what they did with my hair since I didn't have much. Let's see if we can get it to stick up in the middle.

This was Easter 1971 so I was probably around 18 months old. Wasn't I stylish?
