She passed!!

She's so excited!  I'm a nervous wreck!!

I mentioned yesterday it was road test day.  The instructor said she did well.  The only things she had problems with was the parallel parking (who doesn't?  I still avoid it at all costs) and making sure she got up to speed a little quicker in the business district.

She already took her maiden voyage alone last night.  She drove back and forth to jazz band practice at school.  It's a route she's driven with me many times.  But even so I was a basket case waiting for her to text me once she got there!  And then again when she told me she was coming home.

I think I see few more grey hairs in the mirror today.

I'm not cut out for this!

I'm teaching my teen to drive.

I'm afraid for my life.

Seriously.  She's already cutoff a semi truck and taken the turn into her friends driveway at 40 mph, missing the driveway completely, driving over the lawn and narrowly missing a huge tree!  Luckily her friend lives in a more rural area than us and has a big yard and plenty of room.

Good thing her chickens weren't out in the yard.  That sounds strange doesn't it?  I never thought I'd be saying that sentence.

Who says 15 1/2 is old enough to learn to drive?

Wasn't my husband suppose to take on this responsibility?  I want out!

And there's people out there that do this for a living.  Why?

Kids making bad choices

Twice now in the past week I've heard stories of kids my daughter's age (15), kids I know, either using illegal substances or drinking.

That seriously scares the crap out of me!

You might think I'm weird but I've never really done either.  Never tried any drugs and because I've seen first hand what alcohol can do to a family, I've never had any interest in drinking.  Plus I think it all tastes disgusting!

Yeah, I know it goes on with teens.  I see it movies, TV, hear about it on the news.  But none of it seems real, ya know?  It's just a TV show or it's a story about a kid in some other city or state.

But to hear a story about a kid you know?  A kid who your child used to hang out with?  It makes me sick to my stomach.

What if my kids get into that?  What would I do?  I have a hard time if they don't listen or do their chores.  I can't imagine what I'd do if I found out one of them was doing drugs or drinking underage.  Sometimes I feel like I'm not cut out to be the mom of a teen.  I don't know if I could handle that.  I never thought that far ahead when I signed up for this parenting stuff!

The Life of a Teen

My poor kid.  She's usually such a laid back girl.  Pretty happy, doesn't get upset much.  But lately things have been getting her down.  She asked me the other night..."Mom, what's wrong with me?"  If that doesn't pull at your heart strings I don't know what will.  She rattled off the following list:

I've got eye problems (she wears glasses)
I've got mouth problems (braces, and currently wears appliances to fix overbite)
I've got grade problems (was upset about a bad test grade in biology)
I've got pancreas problems (she's diabetic)
I've got skin problems (had some breakouts, got some medicated cream from doctor now skin is red and irritated)

I wish I could make it all go away!  Luckily she hasn't listed boy problems yet!  Those can wait.

Now she's leaving for a week long trip with the school band.  I'm really gonna miss her :(
