Flashback Friday: Halloween Edition

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

I found this while going through some boxes looking for pictures and flashback ideas. It's the first page of a Halloween story I wrote in either Kindergarten or 1st grade. The writing is kind of hard read with my coloring over it so here's what it says:

Once thar was to pumkins siting in the yerd. Than some body squoshet them. Then the necst moning. I looked out the windo and I saw that they wher squoshet and. I got so mad.

I left in all the spelling and punctuation mistakes. That was hard to type! And spell check didn't like it either!

I apologize to any of you whose blog I haven't visited or commented on lately! I've been working more hours. Someone left, another person is working her 2nd shift hours so I've been getting the open 1st shift hours. I don't know how I used to do it working full time.

Twilight madness

So I decided to jump on the Twilight band wagon and started reading the other night. I've seen it mentioned on so many blogs lately I wanted to see what it was all about.

I've been planning to read if for a while now but had to finish Harry Potter first. I'm just not that good to have two going at once! I was rereading books 1-6 and then read number 7 for the first time. I still can't believe I waited over a year and a half to read the last book! I think I was Ok with it since I knew it was the last one and was sad to see it end. As I was reading, the more I wanted to read but on the other hand the closer I got to the end the more bummed I got knowing it was the end of the road for the HP story. Maybe someday she could continue on with the story of his kids or something! Wishful thinking? lol

Anyway, my mom bought all four of the Twilight books about a month ago. She started reading the first one and couldn't make it through. I'm still going to try myself and not make a judgement based on her reaction. She can be a pretty tough judge when it comes to books.

I want to get the first one read by the time the movie comes out so I can go see it. So lets see, I'm two chapters in. Twenty two to go and what twenty four days until the movie. It's doable. I'm a slow reader by the way. Not slow as in speed of actually reading the words. Slow as in I only read 20-30 minutes a day. Depending on the day and my mood. So it takes me quite a while to get through a book sometimes. I'm not one to get all wrapped up in a book and read all night. I'll usually end up falling asleep in my book!

FB Friday (sorta): The Kids are all Grown Up!

As seen by:

  • Their bodies (they've all aged matured quite nicely,)
  • Their voices and singing
  • Their songs and lyrics
  • Their gyrating and "Dirty Dancing"
  • The multiple crotch grabs throughout the night!

Picture this: All five guys in dark suits and hats, lined up at the front of the stage. A synchronized pelvic thrust and crotch grab during the song "Grown Man"!

"I'm a give you some Grown Man!"

Yeah, hot!

So here is my flashback part of the post. The Right Stuff video from, I think 1988:

Here's the video I took of them Wednesday night singing it:

Not too bad for row SSS

I had asked my friend A what her favorite song was so I could record it. It was this one and "I'll be Loving You Forever". OK. Got it. And I was supposed to take a little video while they were on the revolving stage too. Well, she had to nudge me each time because I, of course, didn't recognize them as fast as she did. Then I never did get anything from the other stage. I think I got caught up in the OMG they're right there moment!

Our seats were maybe half way back on the floor and there was an enclosed area right near us with something covered and some security guards inside it. She went over before the show and asked if it was a stage and they said yes. So we knew they'd be coming out there at some point. There were people with wrist bands who were allowed to come right down to the stage so when they appeared she left our seats and went up there too. I stayed where I was so I could get some pics and not be squished. For some reason I was having issues with the flash not going off. Then some B**** came from who knows where and stood up on a chair right it front of me and the girls next to me. She was asked a couple times but would not get down. I hate when people do that!

Anyway, A got to touch Jordan and Jon while up there. They were leaning over and grabbing hands. She also got a point and nod from Donnie, she thought it was cuz he liked here tattoo. She has a big one on her right upper arm with skulls and swirls and stuff.

I admit I wasn't sure about going. I was a little "old" for them at the time they were popular. Meaning I was a senior in High School! lol Even though they are all about my age. But I did know of them and their songs. My cousin was a big fan and I remember her watching and dancing to their videos. But, I did have a great time. It really was a great show. I even bought their new CD on the way out. Yup, they sucked me in! They did quite a few of them from the new one during the show and I liked them. We listened to it on the way home but I have yet to have a chance to listen again. I don't even have it in my possession right now. She bought the greatest hits and took them both home because we planned to "share" and I haven't seen her since. I should have just came home and bought it on itunes!

NKOTB Sneak Peek

I know I have a few people waiting to hear how the New Kids on the Block concert went last night. I'm super tired and have some errands to run today, so I'm not able to do a whole post on the show yet so I thought I'd at least share these for now! These are about the best I got so don't get your hopes up for the rest of them to be any good! lol Most of them are super grainy because of using the digital zoom and a high ISO on my daughter's camera. I did filter a couple of these to reduce the grainy-ness but I won't have time to do them all. I will be putting them up on photobucket soon.

It was a fun night!

In a digital world

On Sunday hubby decided to tackle Tiger's bedroom. She is one messy kid and every couple of months or so we have to go in there and attack her entire room and clean it up. It was so nice of him to do it while I was at work. I get so frustrated with her with the stuff she keeps in there!

Anyway, she had one of my old cheap point and shoot FILM cameras in there that I had let her have. They had taken it out and put on the kitchen counter. I saw it when I got home but never really thought much of it. Just figured she didn't want it anymore.

So this morning he picks it up and says to me that Tiger said it didn't work anymore and that is why it was there. So I asked what was wrong with it. He had no clue. So when Tiger came out of the bathroom I asked her.

Tiger: It doesn't work anymore.
Me: But what is wrong with it?
Tiger: I don't know, it doesn't take pictures.
Me: You know this is a FILM camera right? You need to have film in it for it to work?
Tiger: Huh?
Me: You put a roll of film in it and take pics. Then you have to take it out and get it developed.
Tiger: Oh. (Still a confused look on her face)

I still don't think she really got what I was talking about. She is so used to my digital cameras and being able to see the pics right away and download them to the computer. I guess it's all what you grow up with. My kids still can't believe that I didn't have a computer or video games while growing up. Didn't get our Atari until I was in Middle or High school I think!!

Tomorrow is my New Kids on the Block concert. I'm going with a friend who was a big fan. Aren't I so sweet? lol Unlike my BFF from college who wouldn't go with me to see Rick when I heard he was touring again because she couldn't justify spending the money on someone she hadn't followed the career of. (Maybe I'm just a tad bitter) But that's another story. I'm looking forward to it actually. Even though I don't even know all their names! I will let you know how it goes.

Night out

I went out to a Japanese restaurant with some friends from work last night. It was a farewell dinner for one of us who is moving out of town. I have a hard enough time finding something to eat at an American restaurant, I was a little concerned how this would go.

I felt bad for the person who chose the place because I didn't eat much compared to what was served. But I told her beforehand that I was picky and she insisted I would be OK and find something. I pretty much just had chicken and rice. Oh, and the orange sherbet for desert.

They served a broth with mushrooms which I didn't care for and a salad which I didn't even take because I'm not a salad eater. The meal also included shrimp, zucchini and onions, mushrooms and bean sprouts which I ate pretty much none of. I at least tried most of it so she gave me credit for that! lol I really liked the chicken though! I think the kids at the other end of the table probably ate more than I did.

The worst part for me was paying for a dinner I barely ate.

I took some pics while our chef was preparing our food. Here is an onion volcano he made:

Chicken, veggies and shrimp:

I tried to get the movement of his hands here:

After dinner we all hopped in my van for a trip to the casino. We drove from the restaurant to a park and ride for everyone else to leave their cars there. I got out of my van to open the doors for everyone and felt something sticky on my seat. Turns out I had dropped one of those pumpkin shaped candy corn type candies on my seat and had sat on it. It was ground in to my jeans. I had this big orange blob on my butt! How attractive!

I stopped at a gas station to try to get it out, but it was impossible. Even tried a tooth brush one of us had in her purse. Luckily no one walked in the bathroom while I was doing that in front of the mirror! I ended up borrowing a big sweatshirt to wear at the casino to hide it.

I want to send a shout out and Thank You to Sandra for giving me this blog award..

Flashback Friday: The High School Years

It is Friday, right? It's been one of those weeks where I'm a day off, always thinking it's another day!

So, I'm skipping from elementary to high school. I do have the two pics from my junior high years (7th and 8th grade) but I refuse to post them here. They are just awful. It was a rough couple of years for me and it showed through especially in my hair!

Here I am as a freshman (l), sophomore (r) and junior on the bottom

I don't know, I must have had some kind of thing for stripes back then. I was also wearing them in both of the pics I'm not posting.

Here I am my senior year.

I have to say that for being smack dab in the middle of the 80s I was looking pretty tame in these. I never really did the big hair thing or gobs of makeup with the blue eyeshadow.

It's Always Something!

Took Skowt to the orthodontist yesterday expecting them to let me know when they would be starting the second phase of her treatment.

Little did I know that we'd be leaving with x-rays and a letter to an oral surgeon outlining surgery that needs to be done before they can continue!

She was a little concerned about having surgery and if it will hurt. She has to be put under so I told her she won't even know what's going on but might be sore after it's done.

Then she apologized for costing us so much money! Money Schmoney. Doesn't matter when it comes to your kid's heath. Hubby and I are coming to terms with the fact that we will forever be in debt!

Off to call that oral surgeon.

PS. Go wish Shannon a happy birthday, she's on a mission with her 100th post!

SITS Blogathon

The Secret is in the Sauce is having a blogathon today. Everyone is getting together to have fun, spread some comment love and hopefully win some prizes!

I joined SITS back in July as a way to find some blogs to read and possibly meet and connect with other bloggers. Since I joined my Google reader has taken on a life of it's own! I've found some cool blogs to read. Unfortunately, I don't always have to time to comment as much as I'd like....which is the whole point, right? I'm trying to change that. Mainly need to learn to manage my time a little better. I've always had problems with that.

Anyhoo, to anyone stopping by from SITS today... Welcome!

To those of you who aren't familiar with it, click on the button at the top of this post to head over and check it out for yourself.

Here are 5 random blogs that I've been stalking since seeing them featured or mentioned on SITS:

Shh! We're hunting apples!

Yesterday we went and did some apple picking. (Or hunting as Tiger was calling it.) It was a great day for it. Though a little hot actually. The place was PACKED! I couldn't believe how many people were there. We've been to this farm many times and have never seen it like this. Must have been the summer like weather in the middle of October.

Here are the kids climbing trees for that perfect apple:

The whole family, showing off some of what we picked. My mom took this one:

We went into the store afterward and needed to get some candy corn:

Ginormous Halloween cookies:

And of course we couldn't leave without their famous apple pie in a bag!

Yummmmmmmm!!!

Happy Saturday!

Sorry, I forgot to post a Flashback Friday yesterday. Well, ok, I didn't forget. I just didn't feel like it. I worked all morning and part of the afternoon and when I got home I just didn't feel like doing anything. Also had a bit of a headache.

Ended up laying on the couch for a while, dosed off a few times. Luckily Skowt went home with a friend from school for a sleepover and Tiger spent a couple hours after school at a neighbor friend's house so I had some quiet time. Didn't even eat dinner until 7:30, which in our house is pretty late.

So far it's been a really nice weekend weather wise. The temperature at the bank we drove by said 81 degrees. Not bad for fall in Wisconsin! Too bad hubby had to work all day! May take the kids to go play tennis later and we plan to get to a pumpkin farm or something tomorrow. Tiger wants to go apple "hunting". LOL Don't know why she called it that, she meant apple picking. They had fun doing it last year.

License to Drive

Went to renew my driver's license today.

Is there some kind of conspiracy with the DMV to not allow "good" DL photos to be taken? This one was probably the best I've ever taken but still not good.

Last time they told me not to smile. I looked pissed.

Are we not allowed to show teeth? Because one of the guys before me today was told to close his mouth. He was smiling and she told him to put his lips together.

Then you can't look directly into the camera. They point to a lower spot and say look down here. Of course then you have to put your head down and out pops the double chin!

I have to say though that this was the quickest I've ever been in and out of there getting a new license. Instead of going to one of the main DMV offices, I went to our local library where they set up two Thursdays a month. All they do is license renewals so it went pretty quickly.

Pet Peeves

We all have some. I probably have more than the average person because I'm so picky about stuff! But I'm just gonna share one that was on my mind last night because we were starting a new family religious ed. class.

I am a very punctual person. I'm always on time if not early. If I am supposed to be at a meeting, appointment or class at a certain time, I am usually there at least 10-15 minutes early. (Barring any unforeseen circumstances or major catastrophe!)

What really bugs me is when the people leading the meeting look at the clock and say "Well, it's 7pm and we should be starting but it looks like everyone has not arrived yet, let's give them a few more minutes."

Excuse me? I was here on time and so were the the rest of us sitting here. Let's start on time. Why cater to those who don't respect the rest of us and our time and show up late? We start late, which means we end late, I get home later than expected and it throws my night off even more!

Is it too much to ask for people to be on time?

(btw, luckily this was not the case last night. We started pretty much on time, not bad for the first night and learning the new system.....picking up folder, finding assigned seat etc.)

I saw this video on Ellen last week and thought I'd share it here. Don't worry I'm not going to get all political on this blog, I just thought this was cool.

Flashback Friday: The Elementary Years

So to continue on our little photo journey, here are my elementary school year photos. I was such a dork! Don't laugh too hard. You may want to set down any beverage you may be drinking before scrolling down!

Kindergarten:

First and Second grade:
Looks like I lost my first tooth there.

Third and Fourth grade:

I'm not sure which one I look more scared in!

Fifth and Sixth grade:
I've always thought that 6th grade pic of me looks eerily like my dad.

My poor hair! I don't think my mom knew how to style girl's hair so she kept it short. Though I remember my grandmother almost ripping my hair out to put it in pony tails. So not sure where the long haired pics are before 6th grade. Unless my mom made me cut it all off at the beginning of each school year. I really don't remember!

Breast Cancer Awareness

glitter-graphics.com

October is breast cancer awareness month. Don't forget to take care of the ladies!

I have an appointment tomorrow for a mammogram. Yeah, I know I'm not even 40 yet. But pretty close. Anyway, my doctor has a baseline screening done at 35 for his patients. When I went for that one I was in there forever! They kept having to re-check the right one at different angles. They eventually pulled me into another room to have an ultrasound. Turns out I have a spot where the tissue is a little more dense than the rest so they wanted to make sure it wasn't anything. So because of that I had to go back every 6 months for the next couple years and now I'm at yearly to keep an eye on it.

It's not really that bad. A little uncomfortable for a minute or two.... while you stand with your feet facing one direction but your torso facing another, the corner of the machine poking your armpit, the cold medal against your skin and then the squeezing! But it's over before you know it.
