Zentangle

A couple years ago I came across Zentangle.  I don't remember how or why.  After checking it out for a while I decided it would be fun to try.

So back in November of 2011 my daughter and I took a basic class at our local craft store.  I loved it.  I never felt I could draw but I was able to do the things they were showing us in class.

And like many things I get into I came home all excited, tried a few more tangles.  Drew this:

And promptly "forgot" about doing much with it again for about a year!  I dug my sketch book back out in December of last year and did this:

I decided at that time that I wanted to try to do it more regularly and get better at it.  So I bought myself a 2013 tangle a day calendar.  I love it but of course I am WAY behind on doing it daily.

I started out good

Did a few I liked and a few I didn't.

And stalled out around January 9th!!

I'm working on getting back to it.

I wish I could find a balance and learn to give time to all the things I enjoy instead of obsessing about one for weeks or months and ignoring the others.

Wow, you just described me, spot on! I do that too, get really involved in something and ignore everything else and then, obviously that comes back to bite my butt so I have to focus on everything and I just get really, really confused!

I've never heard of this Zentangle thing though, I'm going to have to check this out because if there is art I can create even though I'm crap at drawing..people and stuff, I would love to learn that!

Nice to know I'm not the only one who does that!
Yes, check it out! It's pretty easy (most of it) It breaks down all the different tangles into manageable steps. Also check out tanglepatterns.com It lists them all with links to instructions on how to draw them.

I did check the website you linked and holy moly, this stuff is indeed slightly addicting! I just kept wanting to try new patterns out, some of them are so amazing and I look at them wondering how they do it, and then they break it down and I'm like "woah. I can do this." which is really an amazing feeling. Also focusing on patterns is surprisingly relaxing! I think I'll try to do this on a regular basis :)
